Sorry to neglect you, but... POUTINE!!!

Ok.  So yah it's been awhile.  But life can get boring on you so sometimes.  And there's nothing I find more depressing so why post about it.

There's nothing depressing about Poutine though.  For those of you who don't know the amazing deliciousness of Poutine, it is a Canadian dish (with French influence):  French fries smothered in gravy with cheese curds.

Except I made my own version.  Ok...I have a small confession to make.  I am slowly converting to becoming a vegetarian.  Perhaps, even becoming a Vegan.  Maybe I'll discuss my reasons later.  But for now, let's focus on Poutine.  Vegan Poutine.

I found this recipe from Group Recipes, and augmented it a bit.

To the gravy, I added sliced shitake mushrooms, and a couple of cloves of garlic.  Then to top it off, I garnished (ok drowned) it with chopped fresh onions.  I surprised myself, 'cause it was better than I expected.  Not bad for a vegan dish.

Feeling a bit inspired by the holiday season, this was my first attempt at baking a pie. It was delicious and made entirely from scratch.. To be fair, I definitely had a little help. Here are the before and after pictures.

I've spent the past couple of weeks on a shoot in Sonoma. Despite some of the delicious meals I had, I couldn't stop missing a classy cup of cappuccino from Intelligentsia. I frequent the Venice location, but today I splurged and ventured out to Pasadena to try out the food at this location. I'm not surprised that their food is just as delicious as their coffee.
